This series of classes features speakers who will keep you informed about a myriad of things happening in our world community. The scope of the topics will interest and amaze you—from government leaders to astronomy; from travel opportunities to how to cope with Medicare; from performers from the Houston Grand Opera to DNA; from religious tolerance to healthy aging.

March 23      DEALING WITH HATE AND HATE CRIMES

Dena Marks, Associate Director and law enforcement liaison for the

Anti-Defamation League, addresses the rise of Anti-Semitism, bullying, road

rage, etc. She shares what the ADL is doing and how it can help.

March 30     INPRINT HOUSTON

Rich Levy, Executive Director, Inprint Houston, the premier venue for

bringing us award winning writers, informs us about this year’s exciting

schedule and Inprint’s fostering of creative writing.

April 6     SONS OF SLAVES, SONS OF SHAREHOLDERS:

REVEALING AMERICA’S HISTORY

Chris Tomlinson, Business Columnist. Houston Chronicle Media Group,

says America must confront its past in order to find reconciliation. In his book

Tomlinson Hill, he researches his family’s slaveholding past and what

happened to the descendants of those slaves.

Rebecca Blakely, Author, Board Director and daughter of Helen

Gordon, tells of the founding of GREENSHEET and brings us stories of this

amazing businesswoman and philanthropist.

April 20     WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY?

Jeffrey Green, PhD, Dean, The Graduate School, and Assistant

Professor of Philosophy and Metaphysics, Houston Baptist University,

believes that philosophy can enrich every area of our lives. In this

discussion, he will ask, “What is philosophy?” and suggest some interesting

answers to that question.

April 27     CAN YOU WARD OFF ALZHEIMERS?

Stephen Andrico, Author of Roadmap to Senior Care, discusses healthy

living. He is a certified dementia practitioner.

May 4     SUSTAINABILITY AT RICE UNIVERSITY AND THE PLANET

Richard R Johnson, Director, Administrative Center and Sustainability

and Energy Management in the Practice of Environmental Studies in

Sociology, Rice University. What is a sustainability officer? How has having

one changed Rice University? What are the paths forward?
